Allan and I are here at my aunts vacation house in Cambria. We had the extended family Christmas in Los Angeles on December 20 and the next day we came here. We are leaving tomorrow for my parents house in Santa Ynez. We have had a nice time. It's a very quiet, quaint and charming town. It's also cold, so we now are more in the mood for the holiday season.

Elephant seals below. We drove about 16 miles north of Cambria, past San Simeon, to Point Piedras Lighthouse area. It's an elephant seal rookery. We saw one pup and a ton of adults. We caught a couple of males fighting. The docents told us that they stop breathing for 30 minutes to conserve moisture. Also, 95% of males will never mate. The females are about 2000 pounds and the males are about 5000 pounds. Babies 'pups' are born at 80 pounds. Mid-January is when the beach is inundated with hundreds of moms about to give birth. You can witness some births even. We would like to return then. It's an interesting and pretty place.

This morning, Allan and I walked from the house to 'Fern Canyon' a protected preserve. It was a sunny, albeit cold day. Nice fresh, crisp air! Here is a picture of Allan there....
