We saw the Shamu the Killer Whale show and the dolphin show. They were both awesome. I know what I want to be when I grow up now...an animal trainer- preferably a dolphin or orca or both. Those people have the coolest job. The animals move so gracefully in the water and being able to have up-close interaction with them would be out of this world. To be catapulted in the air by a killer whale or lie staring at their face on the belly as they swim upside down...what a life. It would be worth the danger. A few times the trainers would hug the dolphins or the orca and it was so sweet.
At one point they brought up a young boy about 8 maybe. He told them he wanted to be a vet when he was older and so they allowed him to feed the orca and get up close and wave and scratch his head. What a moment for that kid. I want to know how they happened to pick him....maybe I can bribe a trainer next time=) They have a lot of exhibits where you can get up to the animals, like the dolphins...my favorite! I remember last October when Allan and I swam with dolphins in Cancun. We gave them commands; had them spin, clap and we even were individually pushed by them--called a foot push. SO fun.
How does one get to be a dolphin trainer? I will have to look that up. I'm probably too old, as all the trainers looked to be in their 20's. Oh well. Maybe I'll just have to settle for paying to swim with them. I do want to check out the Dine with Shamu adventure they have at Sea World. Probably costs a fortune, who knows.
Here are some pictures and one video....the dolphin on the left (of the video) apparently wasn't able to control himself in front of company. Kind of gross. After that we walked to the other side of the pool and I proceeded to put my hands in to try to touch a dolphin. Allan politely reminded me that I put my hand in poop water. Again, oh well.
Off to wash my hands.

The water looks so inviting and the dolphins so sweet. I guess they gotta poop sometime! You two are so going to love being down there in SD. Lucky you. Next, you will have to go kayaking, or boating, or fishing, or shopping, or or or... so much to do.
Love from Santa Ynez
